Hand placed rock laid with mortar and grouted to finish.
Recommended Locations
- Ideal for suburban housing situations, this wall provides strength as well as a ‘sculptured’ landscaping finish to a garden.
- Also used in housing estate situations where terracing and road works call for soil retention.
- Suitable for large and small walls.
- The preferred option where there is poor access for earthmoving machinery.
Style Considerations
- Smaller rock sized to 300mm is concrete set for this wall.
- The rock is usually grouted with flat faced rock used to achieve smooth finish.
- Rough faced or rounded rock can also be used to create a more rustic appearance.
- This wall can also be ‘recess grouted’ to accentuate the rock face.
- Hand split sandstone rocks are excellent for use in “feature wall” situations.
Construction
- The Pitch Wall is built largely by hand using stone and mortar in a course by course fashion and it then usually grouted.
- The top of the wall is capped and there is a choice of it being capped using either concrete or rock.
- For walls greater that one meter in height above ground, Engineers drawings and specifications are required for local authority approval.
- Our approach common to all walls is to ensure they are well drained by using 100mm Ag-Pipe, 20mm blue metal screenings and Geo Fabric as required.
- Quality materials are used to ensure durability.
- The rock is faced consistent with the ‘pitch angle’ of the wall to maximise the aesthetic appeal.
