SERVICES

Rock Wall Building
Rock wall building makes up the largest part of our activity and we have built an enviable reputation for quality at an affordable price. We have our own resources for collecting rock that even extends to having our own equipment at our major quarry source. This enables us to pick and load the right rock for the right job, further facilitating end product quality and speed of construction. The two main styes are boulder walls or pitched walls. (See rock retaining walls for more information)

Quoting
Two experienced operators are available for on site inspections. Written quotes are provided without delay and are valid for 60 days. We apply our experience to help our clients with a ‘best solution’ approach. We are happy to give advice on various alternatives where they apply.

Tendering
Our experience extends to tendering for development site works with respect to both land development and building development.

Site Preparation
Many projects require site preparation works such as clearing and leveling. We are happy to offer this service where practical and quote accordingly.

Engineers Drawings and Specifications
Walls in excess of one metre face height require engineers drawings approved by the relevant local authority (Council). We enjoy an excellent reputation with the region's engineering and civil contracting companies due to our commitment to quality and compliance with design specifications. Roy Saint Engineering at Nambour handles our own engineering certification.

Supporting Landscaping Works
Some clients require additional works to complement their retaining wall works such as edging, paving, steps, etc. We are happy to quote on and complete these works as well. (see rock feature wall page for more information)

Softrock Walls and Sandbagging
The company has developed the in-house skills necessary to become very proficient in the construction of beach groynes, beach retention barriers and canal/estuary retention walls using new generation sandbagging. These structures use materials that give operational life expectancies of at least 20 years, hence the contemporised use of the label 'softrock walls'. We work in tandem with a highly qualified group of people at Soil Filters Australia who handle the technical design and specification components of this type of retention work.

Rock Gabions This involves filling wire baskets with 'Rock Spall' or small rocks that are used to form walls and batter protection. They are a popular solution in and around drains and water courses and other situations where the retention capability needs to be porous.

Rock Mattress This is a larger, flatter form of Rock Gabion. They are also most often used in and around drains and water courses but for batter and bottom protection.

Rock Veneer This practice involves laying thin pieces of rock over an existing block wall. Rock tiles are glued to the block wall and mortar is used to finish. A more detailed explanation and pictures can be found under 'Feature Walls'.

Costings

All of our costings need to be determined on a case by case scenario. Whereas we can advise that one material is dearer than another (e.g. Sandstone is usually dearer than basalt) there are many other factors that need to be taken into account. These include;

  • Access to site for plant, equipment and materials
  • Choice of wall style for the particular rock desired
  • Preliminary site works that may be involved
  • Labour hours required relative to the above

The initial cost of rock walls sometimes exceeds alternative materials. However we are usually able to demonstrate the long term cost-effectiveness thanks to the durability of well-built rock walls and their low cost of maintenance.
